The Sudler Flag of Honor from the John Philip Sousa Foundation

Sudler Flag

The John Phillip Sousa Foundation awarded the Sudler Flag of Honor to The Lockport Band Program for its high standards of excellence in concert activities over a period of several years.  The award is sponsored by Louis and Virginia Sudler, who were (and whose family continues to be) huge supporters of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The award is administered by the John Philip Sousa Foundation, who will present the Sudler Flag at an upcoming concert (TBA).  Only four programs were bestowed this prestigious international achievement award in 2009.  The application reads, "The Sudler Flag of Honor, the most prestigious award for high school concert bands." (Although playing at the Midwest Clinic is the highest honor, this is certainly the most prestigious award).  The John Philip Sousa Foundation received a nomination and a portfolio representing the total band program for the last seven years.  Only 60 programs world-wide have been granted this award since 1983, and Lockport is only the fourth program in Illinois to receive the honor!  Congratulations to all of the students and parents of the Lockport Band Program.

World Association of School Bands and Ensembles

CONGRATULATIONS to the Lockport Township High School Band Program which was invited to perform at the 2008 WASBE Conference, in Cincinnati, Ohio, July 5, 2008. The WASBE conference occurs every two years throughout the world. The last conference was in Ireland, the last time the conference was in the U.S. was 1999 in California. This year only three high school bands from across the world were selected to perform, with Lockport being invited to be a performer at the opening session!  Great job and congratulations to all of the Program and Wind Symphony members.
